History
Over the past decade, there has been a very rapid growth of Thailand's
industries which has lead to a severe shortage of properly educated
and trained personnel in sciences and engineering technology. Thammasat
university, one of the nations most prestigious higher educational
institutions, has recognized this fact and responded to the country's
demand by establishing a group of sciences and engineering faculties
situated on the new Rangsit campus, Pathumthani, since 1986.
The Faculty
of Engineering was inaugurated on August 19, 1989 as the tenth faculty
of the university. The first year of student admission was in 1990
to the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of
Industrial Engineering. In 1991, students were first admitted to
the Department of Civil Engineering. A year later students were
first admitted to the Department of Chemical Engineering and two
years after that the students were first admitted to the Department
of Mechanical Engineering.
It is the
intention of the Faculty to provide strong engineering education
and training to the students. The curriculum, thus, places emphasis
on both theory and practice. Students shall experience the working
function of engineering fields by visiting and training in the industrial
sectors compliant to their major disciplines. It is anticipated
that graduates of the Faculty are well qualified to help develop
appropriate technology to serve the country's need, as well as,
possess the professional morality and ethics which will bring prosperity
to our nation.
